Cha-Ching

The topic of money came up at work this morning as a group of us were chatting. One guy was expressing his concern with the amount of money he had lost in investments. He stated how he felt pretty secure about his future up until this latest economic downturn. Now he expressed he's fearful and worried about his future. Financial concerns are legit but is that where my security for the future comes from? I know I have put my trust in a dollar at times. A nice nest egg can bring a sense of security. Although in times like these what brought us security in our minds can fade away quickly. As I drove around today I began to think and jot down things that money could and couldn't buy. This was part of my list:

Money can buy you a house but it can't buy you a home.
Money can buy you a bed but it can't buy you sleep.
Money can buy you books but it can't buy you a brain.
Money can buy you companions but it can't buy you friends.
Money can buy you sex but it can't buy you love.
Money can buy you medicine but it can't buy you health.
Money can buy you entertainment but it can't buy you happiness.
Money can buy you pleasure but it can't buy you fulfillment.
Money can buy you a reputation but it can't buy you character.
Money can buy you influence but it can't buy you salvation.

I think 1 John 2:17 says it best. The world and it's desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. That's real security.

Money can buy the earth... but not the sky
